Dramatic Spaces for Main Street

Open to the sky

Think of this a SCHEMATIC CONCEPTUAL ARRANGEMENT, not as the final architectural design. The opportunity for the architectural design is unlimited. It may be customized to the local culture or desire.

Model shows potential inspiring spaces for a traditional pedestrian Main-Street: for any culture, climate-controlled,
moveable roof, stair-stacked homes insulate both sides. Short walk to everything (shops, cafes, services, school,
recreation, transit).

Visualize changing a normal streets width and character. In most places make it over twice as wide. Take those flat
windowed vertical walls and shape them into large sculptured spaces, like the settings of the great cliff dwellings of
the ancient Anasazi. Float 80-100 wide hanging gardens 40 and 80 above the street allowing horizontal views
through wide openings in the protective wall of home sites on each side of the street. The street has greater potential than
histories great shopping streets and has the scale of the largest cathedrals. The main street is actually like open land
for one to three story traditional structures to be developed as desired. Storage, deliveries and services are from
directly below.

This street space is more open than the typical street. The typical opening to the sky varies from 40 to 200 feet. The structures on each
side at grade level are separated 120 to 300 feet+. For certain climates light weight structural fabrics could enclose
the openings to the sky. They would be easily moved out of the way when desired.

A canopy of trees (not shown) between shops can be designed to hide the view of the home sites on each side from
the pedestrians while maintaining the opening to the sky down the center of the street. Could feel just LIKE A
NORMAL TRADITIONAL MAIN STREET in any small town.

In the larger open areas the street space opens like a great plaza to 600 or 800 feet wide. These provide space for larger public gathering facilities. Hundreds of years into the future, if it became desired, it allows for high rise structures of offices or for housing descendant generations. Any high rise structures would be built elevated in a manner that would maintain the open spaces.
